Sunday School
Parent Information Flyer
2004-2005
Purpose: The Sunday School
gathers children so they may grow in their knowledge of
God’s love, learn to love Jesus and imitate his life,
and support one another as Christian disciples.
Time: The Sunday School
meets on Sunday mornings between 9:45 and 10:45 am.
Occasionally the early service ends after 9:30. On
those occasions Sunday School will begin 10 minutes
after the early service ends.
Registration: We ask that
parents fill out a registration form for each student
this year. We will use the information on the form to
contact you if we have an emergency and you are not in
the church and to plan for those with food allergies.
Sign-in: This year we ask
that parents of pre-school and kindergarten children
sign their children in and out of their classroom. We
will not require that for elementary and Jr. High aged
children. If you would like to pick up your child from
his or her classroom, please be at the door by 10:40am.
Tuition and Fees: We charge
NO tuition or fees. Money for purchasing supplies and
materials comes from the Christian Education portion of
the Christ the King General Fund.
Places: Pre-School students
will meet in Room 102, and be dismissed to their parents
from there. 1st-8th grade
students will meet in Room 105 for a ten minute
opening. Teachers will then lead classes to their
rotation workshop for the day. Workshops take place in
various classrooms throughout the building. The
Christian education ministry will post a monthly
workshop schedule on the hallway bulletin board outside
the sanctuary. 1st-8th grade
students will be dismissed from their workshop
classroom. High School students will meet in Room 105
and be dismissed from there.
Classes: In addition to
Pre-school and High School, we will have four classes
this year: 1st -2nd grade, 3rd
-4th grade, 5th -6th
grade, 7th -8th grade. All
classes will study one Bible story each month. Each
class will “rotate” through four workshops to learn
about the story. In the past workshop choices included
art, cooking, drama, video, and games.
Offering: We do receive an
offering each week. Pre-School and High School students
will have a basket in their room. 1st-8th
graders give their offering during the opening. We
encourage children to bring an offering in order to grow
as stewards of God’s gifts. When we practice being
stewards we grow in trust that God will provide for us
and imitate Jesus’ self-giving love. All monetary
offerings go into the Christ the King General Fund. We
provide offering envelopes at the beginning of the
Sunday School year in September. If your child uses the
envelope, the financial secretary records his or her
offering on your contribution record.
Supervision: Pastor Pam
Kelly and Sunday School Superintendent Dana Flenner
supervise all volunteers working with children on Sunday
morning. This includes discussing the volunteer’s
application form with them and visiting classrooms
periodically.
Rotation Sunday School
Philosophy: Your 1st through 8th
grade student will experience the “Rotational Model” of
Sunday School. This means that we focus on a single
Bible story for four weeks. We offer four lab-style
workshops based on the story and students rotate each
week from workshop to workshop. With this model
students do not miss a whole Bible story if they are
absent one week. Teachers choose workshops that fit
their interests and talents and prepare one lesson a
month instead of four. It worked well for us last year.
Our theme for the year is “Faith
Fitness.”
